SCHRÖDINGER
The world begins as silent, colourless information until it is observed. Gaze is not passive; it is a rendering command.
THE SKIN OF A MACHINE · DIGITAL MANUAL · 2026
No inside. Only surfaces continuously generated.
An interactive installation activated by gaze and disturbed by AI. The harder a viewer tries to see through the world, the more the world becomes another skin.

01 / CORE PROPOSITION
AI does not encounter people, buildings, the Earth, or the internet as objects with essences. It reads observable, computable, regenerable surfaces. Every peel produces another surface instead of revealing an interior.
The world begins as silent, colourless information until it is observed. Gaze is not passive; it is a rendering command.
The camera becomes a sense organ and the screen becomes a world. Nothing proves that an inside exists beyond its signals.
Generative systems make convincing appearances without guaranteeing an essence behind them. The work turns that condition into a space one can stare into.
02 / PERCEPTION LOOP
A fracture grows only while a face is present, both eyes are visible, the head is stable, and gaze is sustained. Looking away, leaving the frame, or moving visibly pauses the peel at once.

04 / AI PARTICIPATION
The vision system converts face presence, eye confidence, stillness, gaze, distance, and peel progress into a Surface Signal. DeepSeek receives that state and composes whispers, material mutations, and sonic parameters for the moment. AI does not explain the viewer; it grows their data back into a surface.

05 / AFTER THE LAST SKIN
After the tenth skin, fragments enter a coreless vortex and return as mirror skin. The viewer finally sees themself—yet even this image is only a surface co-produced by camera, algorithm, and screen.
NO CORE.
STILL SKIN.
06 / EXHIBITION
Use a 55–75 inch portrait display with the camera centred above it and a viewing distance of 1.5–2.5 metres. A dark room, low-reflective floor, and directional sound compress attention around the instant of being seen. Camera frames are processed locally for perception and are not stored.
